With all that has been going on in our lives, it seems like it wouldn't be that much to ask to have our animals be just fine and dandy, but NOOOO!!! We have ten two-month old chickens (four Rhode Island Reds; three Barred Rocks and three Americaunas), and last week, our flock decided to ostracize our three Americaunas. At first it was just the biggest in the flock, aptly named Big Mama, but then the other two were quickly turned out as well. Since our chickens are getting quite large and we haven't had the chance to build a new pen, we thought they were just trying to make room. Well, after some observation and a little research, we realized that one of our chickens, a Barred Rock I had named Gloria is in fact a Rooster. Apparently Roosters have a tendency to be more agressive than hens and he didn't take a liking to any of the Americaunas. So now we have to have three separate pens: one for the rooster, one for the three Americaunas and one for the the rest of the flock! Stupid high-maintenance birds!!

And all you wanted was some eggs ... sheesh ... can't the birds cooperate?
Oh...what a pain!! Good luck.
